Wat Mahathat Yuwaratrangsarit stands in old Bangkok, on Tha Phra Chan Road near the Grand Palace. Wikipedia says it was built in the Ayutthaya period as Wat Salak. Thai Wikipedia adds that it was restored in 1783 and renamed Wat Phra Sri Ratana Mahathat in 1803. Placed between the new Grand Palace and the Front Palace, it is a first-class royal temple, and it was used for royal ceremonies and funerals.

The temple has long been a place of study. Thai Wikipedia says King Rama V set up a Pali college here in 1889, and English Wikipedia places Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University, a Buddhist university for monks, on the temple grounds.

For visitors, the point of interest is meditation. Wikipedia says the temple is home to a vipassana meditation centre, and two official sites cover it. The International Vipassana Meditation Centre at the temple has its own website with online registration for scheduled courses. The central vipassana office in Section 5 (Khana 5) has a separate site that covers vipassana teaching more widely, including training for vipassana teachers, and also takes registrations for practice. Neither site says how the two relate.

Both sites are mainly in Thai. This page does not say what method is taught, who teaches, or in which languages, because none of the pages fetched say. Check the centre’s own site for what is currently offered.

Visiting

The meditation centre runs its own registration system on its website, which is mainly in Thai. Check there for what is currently offered and whether a course suits you before you go; the page does not say which languages teaching is given in.
