DharmaBase

How to help

Volunteers run DharmaBase, and it is only as accurate as the people checking it. Here is what helps most, from one minute to an ongoing role.

Report a problem (one minute)

Every teacher, talk and place page ends with its sources and a Report a problem link. Use it for a factual error, a wrong or missing source, a teaching presented as belonging to all of Buddhism when it belongs to one tradition, something out of date, or a name or honorific used wrongly.

The form asks where we can check the right version. We change a page only when we can read the source ourselves, so a book and page or a link makes a correction quick. If you speak for the organisation a page describes, say so. Fixes are listed on the corrections page.

Suggest a better source (ten minutes)

Most pages are marked editorial: written from published sources but not yet tied claim by claim to them. If you know a primary text, a recognised teacher's published work or a scholarly study that covers a page, send the citation through the contact form: author, title, publisher, year and page or chapter.

Suggest a teacher, talk or place

Teacher pages are written from the teacher's own organisation and published books, so a teacher suggestion asks for their official site. Talks come only from the teacher's own channel, their monastery's or a lineage organisation's, so a talk suggestion asks whose channel it is on. For monasteries, temples and retreat centres, use suggest a place.

Offer a photo you took

We do not use AI-generated pictures of real teachers or stock images of the wrong place. Photos come from openly licensed collections or from the people who took them, and each one is credited. If you took a photo at one of the places below, or of one of these teachers, you can offer it under CC BY-SA, CC BY or a public-domain dedication.

Review pages in your tradition

A page can be marked reviewed only when a named advisor with lineage credentials has read it. That needs a small network of advisors across the traditions we cover. An advisor reads pages in their own area, confirms or corrects them, and is named on every page they review.

We ask for training within an established lineage and authorisation to teach from it (ordination, dharma transmission, empowerment or scholarly recognition), willingness to be named on the pages you review, and roughly an hour a month at your own pace. There is no formal application: write to us with a short note about your background and the area you could help with.
