Anam Thubten grew up in Tibet and began practising in the Nyingma tradition of Tibetan Buddhism at an early age. Dharmata Foundation names Lama Tsurlo, Khenpo Chopel and Lama Garwang as his most formative teachers.
He founded Dharmata Foundation, a non-profit formed in 2005 under his direction, and is its spiritual advisor. The foundation supports meditation groups in several countries, along with daylong, weekend and residential retreats. He teaches widely in the United States and abroad, and writes articles and books in both Tibetan and English.
His English books include No Self No Problem, Choosing Compassion and Into the Haunted Ground, all published by Shambhala, and The Citadel of Awareness, a commentary on Jigme Lingpa’s Dzogchen aspiration prayer. Dharmata also hosts Dharma Treasury, a collection of English translations of sacred Tibetan texts made by him and the Dharmata Translation Group, offered for free non-commercial distribution.
