In this talk
Mingyur Rinpoche on working with feelings and strong emotion through view, meditation and application, drawing on his own panic attacks.
Mingyur Rinpoche starts from three layers of mind (thinking, feeling and the habitual, unconscious layer) and spends the first part on the feeling layer: pleasant, unpleasant and a constant neutral feeling beneath them, and why intuition is useful but carries past imprints.
He then gives a three-part approach from his own panic attacks. The view is accepting impermanence, which is letting go without giving up. The meditation moves from breath to sound to body, then to the emotion itself, seen like a river from the bank. The application is catching anger or stress as it arises in daily life. He compares the emotion to shaving foam and awareness to sunlight on frost. This is a talk with no guided silent sitting.
