Mingyur Rinpoche tells how his father answered his childhood panic attacks with the image of sky and storms, in conversation with a scientist who studies the brain, then guides a short taste of open awareness.

A panel conversation that opens a series on innate well-being. Rinpoche recalls his panic attacks from about age nine, how running to forest and cave did not help, and his father’s instruction not to get rid of them. Watching a Himalayan thunderstorm, he learns that storms cannot change the sky, and that awareness, love and compassion and wisdom are the sky.

The scientist, whom the moderator calls Richie, and a third speaker discuss moving from fixing problems to recognising these qualities, and controlling the weather versus exploring the sky. Rinpoche closes by guiding a first step, resting after exercise, then says there is no second step beyond being with one’s own fundamental nature. The captions are automatic and rough in places.
