In this talk
Mingyur Rinpoche introduces meditation without an object in two steps, resting first and then letting the mind be as it is, in a live online session.
Recorded from a live online session, in which Rinpoche polls the audience about learning meditation without an object, also called open awareness. He compares awareness to a candle flame that lights itself and what is around it.
He teaches in two steps. First comes simple relaxing, done together with three rounds of deep breathing and a few minutes of rest, which he says is not yet meditation. He then reveals that the second step is already done: letting the mind be as it is. Using the sky and clouds, he names three marks of this, being present rather than lost, having no object, and being natural. He closes by asking for short, frequent glimpses through the day.
This is the end of a longer session; it begins partway through.
