In this talk
Phakchok Rinpoche introduces Buddhism through the Buddha's four lines, the causes of negative action, the four truths and the three turnings, published by Samye Institute.
Phakchok Rinpoche takes the Buddha’s four lines, do no harm, practise virtue and tame the mind, as a simplified introduction to the teaching. He traces harmful action to negative emotions and to a blind spot about oneself, and asks listeners to be honest about their own anger and attachment before taking on elaborate practice.
He answers whether Buddhism is selfish and whether the Buddha is a god, describes pride, jealousy, anger and attachment, and outlines the four truths, points to dependent origination as something to study, and describes the three turnings of the wheel. He closes by encouraging listeners to examine the teachings and find a good teacher.
