Part 1 of 3 · Three Important Exercises
Phakchok Rinpoche explains why he gives three short daily exercises and teaches the first, a four-minute breathing practice.
Phakchok Rinpoche opens a set of three short daily exercises. He starts from the habit of always wanting what we lack, and says advertising and marketing shape our choices, so we should know our own fears and wishes. He likens the mind to software that picks up viruses such as loneliness, with the eyes as hardware.
He then teaches the first exercise, a breathing practice with two fingers held for four minutes by the timer. He says it settles the mind, and that a resolution made afterwards, such as giving up a habit, goes in more deeply. It is the first of three parts.
