Part 7 of 8 · The Four Noble Truths Retreat
Ajahn Sumedho on the last full day: trusting awareness as the gate to the deathless, personality, generosity, virtue and what rebirth means.
On the final full day Ajahn Sumedho turns to practising after the retreat. He takes the Buddha’s announcement that the gate to the deathless is open as his main reflection, and uses “it’s like this” as a phrase that notes experience without judging it. He maps the Four Noble Truths onto this, treats personality as a condition that can be witnessed and improved, and sets out the sequence of dana, sila and bhavana. He discusses heaven, hell and rebirth, the desire for becoming and the desire for non-becoming, and ends by thanking the Singapore hosts.
