Part 2 of 2 · Guru Rinpoche's Principle

Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche on Guru Rinpoche's principle, part 2 of 2, broadcast by the Bhutan Broadcasting Service.

Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche continues from part 1. He says the guru is invoked at the moment devotion arises, mentions a scorpion form of Guru Rinpoche in connection with the Ebola outbreak, and takes up a viewer’s question about repeated suicides, which he calls a trend that spreads through group karma. He then introduces the eight manifestations as a show shaped by its audience, from a serene form resembling Shakyamuni to the form he calls crazy, and says a spiritual path should keep pulling the rug from under you: discipline that does not do this deceives. He ends by calling the guru a means, like a finger pointing at the moon, and relates the festival dance to mindfulness, the eight consciousnesses and our attraction to trouble.
