Part 2 of 6 · The Four Dharmas of Gampopa
Rinpoche introduces the Four Dharmas as a union of the stages of the path and Mahamudra, and teaches the first dharma, the mind going to the dharma, through the four thoughts.
The morning session begins with generating bodhichitta. Rinpoche then presents the Four Dharmas as a union of Atisha’s gradual path, in the first two lines, and the Mahamudra of Marpa and Milarepa, in the last two. He recounts Gampopa’s answer that an ordinary person can reach Vajradhara in one life and body, given an authentic guru and a receptive disciple.
He teaches the first dharma, the mind going to the dharma, through the four thoughts that turn the mind: the freedoms and resources of a human life, impermanence, the results of actions and the defects of samsara. He separates karma from habit, saying that anger or weak faith can be changed. A short meditation and a long-life prayer end the session.
