In this talk
A public talk by Khenchen Thrangu Rinpoche on bodhichitta and the four immeasurables, translated into English, followed by questions.
Khenchen Thrangu Rinpoche gives an evening public talk, with a translator speaking the English. He presents bodhichitta as benevolence joined with discernment, and says the Buddhist approach is to make love and compassion impartial, since all beings equally want happiness and freedom from suffering. He then sets out the four immeasurables in the order they are cultivated: equanimity first, then love, compassion and joy. Love and compassion, he says, aim at beings having the causes of happiness and being free of the causes of suffering.
He thanks the Manitou Foundation for land given to the Nyingma and Kagyu traditions. In the questions he explains how to benefit someone’s future and what to do for a pet with a terminal illness.
