Part 2 of 6 · The Four Seals of Dharma

Second session of Chökyi Nyima Rinpoche's series on the four seals: faith and reason, impermanence, and attachment, published by DharmaSun.

Chökyi Nyima Rinpoche distinguishes followers of faith from followers of reason and answers the charge that religion is blind belief. He says religion gives people something good to rely on, and that Buddhists are asked to examine.

He then treats the first seal, impermanence, through the Buddha’s words, reasoning and the guru’s pith instructions, and traces suffering to attachment. What is gathered runs out, what is built falls, meetings end in parting and birth in death. He calls impermanence the best notion to keep in mind, pairs it with the view that appearances are unreal like the moon in water, dedicates the merit, and continues with a prayer on impermanence before closing.
