Part 2 of 13 · Sixty Stanzas on Reasoning, Kathmandu

Audience definitions of existence and truth, birth, abiding and ending, and samsara and nirvana as not separate.

After the break, Rinpoche asks the audience to define existing and being true, takes answers from several people, and shows how vague and subjective each one is. He then gives Nagarjuna’s definition of existence as birth, abiding and ending, and the stanzas under study deny that anything is truly born. A dreamt ocean illustrates things existing and not existing as illusion, and a dreamt lottery win what one can do once the dream is recognised. He reads on to the stanzas saying that neither a real existent nor a real non-existent liberates, and that samsara and nirvana are not separate things, and closes the first day with advice on studying Nagarjuna.
