Part 4 of 6 · How To Meditate
Part four of Yuttadhammo Bhikkhu's How To Meditate series: the qualities that make noting practice work, and balancing the five faculties.
Yuttadhammo Bhikkhu describes the qualities that make walking and sitting practice effective. The noting happens in the present moment and continues from one moment to the next, like rain falling drop by drop. It takes effort, sending the mind out to the object, and knowing the object from beginning to end without drifting into liking or disliking. He then explains balancing the five faculties of confidence, effort, mindfulness, concentration and wisdom: confidence with wisdom, effort with concentration, and with mindfulness they work together. He gives examples of what happens when one is stronger than its partner.
