Part 3 of 6 · How To Meditate
Part three of Yuttadhammo Bhikkhu's How To Meditate series: a demonstration of walking meditation with silent noting of each step.
Yuttadhammo Bhikkhu gives reasons for walking meditation alongside sitting: it builds patience and endurance, supports the body, and carries concentration into the sitting that follows. He then demonstrates the method. The feet stay close together, the hands are clasped, the eyes rest on the floor about two metres ahead, and each step is noted in the mind as “stepping right” and “stepping left”, made as the foot moves; he says the notes aloud only to demonstrate. He shows stopping, standing and turning at the end of the path, how to stop and note a thought, feeling or pain that arises, and the suggestion to match the minutes of walking with minutes of sitting.
